Ingredients
From looking at a couple of other recipes around the Internet, I've distilled the basic ratio to 2 slices of bread to one egg, to 100ml of milk, to 2/3 tablespoon sugar. So, if you have 6 slices of bread, that's 3 eggs, 300ml of milk and 2 tablespoons of sugar
- 6 slices of bread
- 3 eggs
- 300ml of milk
- 2 teaspoons of vanilla essence
- 20g sultanas
- 2 tablespoons sugar + extra for sprinkling
- cinnamon
- butter
Method
- Butter bread on both sides and sprinkle lightly with sugar.
- Cut bread into triangles.
- Grease a baking dish and arrange bread in the dish, sprinkle saltanas between the slices.
- Disolve sugar in milk and combine with eggs and vanilla.
- Pour the egg mixture over the bread, taking care to moisten all the bread.
- Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon over the pudding and set aside for 30min
- Place dish in a tray of water and bake at 180 degrees Celsius for 30-40min (always takes me longer) or until custard is set and pudding is browned
